Phase 0 | Inventory

Being involved in a project at an early stage provides great added value. We can then immediately add all our experience to get the maximum potential out of the project. We start with a thorough analysis in which we have the plot measured and map the vitality of the existing trees and soil. If necessary, we will also have a check carried out on the zoning plan.

Then we ‘really’ get to work and plan a start meeting on location. This way we get to know each other and the place even better. The garden design is often a link in a larger process and an architect is also involved for the home. We like to coordinate with the architect early in the process to connect inside and outside right from the start. The more extensive the input, the better the garden design will match the wishes.

We then process all collected information into a first concept presentation in which we explore the possibilities of the project. Optionally, we can also have an investment budget added by our internal Technical Advisor so that we can also set out a financial line together.

Phase 1 | Sketch Design

We divide the design process into two parts; the Sketch Design and the Final Design.

In the first phase, the Sketch Design, we focus on the lines and the logical linking of the spaces and functions. We use the extensive analysis of the inventory as input for the garden design. The Project Architect is in the lead for this and prepares an extensive presentation. In addition to a large planning map, we also add an A3 presentation book, materials pallet and a cost estimate.

During the presentation at the studio, we go through the design step by step and check together whether our creativity has properly translated all the wishes. Often new insights and sometimes even wishes arise. We will of course take this into account in the next phase.

Phase 2 | Final design

In the second phase of the spatial design, the Definitive Design, we translate the first design into a complete 3D design. The garden design is now really coming to life! The realistic 3D images show all aspects of the design and also give a good idea of the materials that we would like to use.

In addition to the 3D images, we also add a planting concept in which we use reference images to give a first impression of the planting we are proposing and how it will change the atmosphere in the garden per season.

Of course we prepare a complete presentation with a large planning map, presentation book and material pallet. The cost estimate is also updated on the points where the garden design has changed. In this way we ensure that we are well prepared in the next step to be able to talk to an implementing party.

Phase 3 | Technical design

The Technical Design is the first important step to move from spatial design to implementation. The garden design is now ready and it’s time to work out all the technical details. This allows an executing party to make a well-founded price.

We start by going through the design on location with a potential gardener. There we once again examine the quality of the soil, the possibilities of access for large equipment, height differences, connections to the facade, cables and pipelines, etc.

Based on this, we elaborate the drawings one step further with technical details and add a lighting plan in addition to a complete planting plan. This gives the gardener all the information to make a well-founded price.

As soon as the gardener has his price ready and it has been checked for completeness and price by our Project Architect and Technical Adviser, we schedule an appointment to go through everything. The gardener presents his price and, depending on the chosen method of supervision, we decide together on follow-up actions towards the last step: the implementation!

Stage 4 | Execution and management

In the last step of the process, we fully focus on the realization of the design. Will new trees be planted? Then we like to go to a tree nursery together to find exactly the right trees. In addition, we often look together for furniture and accessories for the terraces.

We are closely involved during the realization and check step by step whether the design is being carried out in accordance with the design. We call this aesthetic construction supervision, in which we ensure, in collaboration with the gardener, that the project is technically completed to full satisfaction, also under his responsibility.

After completion, the garden begins its natural development. Good management helps to steer this development and to ensure that the garden only becomes more beautiful every year. This way we can achieve the maximum result as we went through it together as a dream image during the design phase.
